just like yukitora said, i was about to suggest STEP you and moments.
moments lyrics are beautiful and easy to understand while STEP you must be together with the pv. i think i got the meaning of STEP you is because the first time i listen to it was from the pv. i did not listen to the song before buying the single. when i was watching the pv and the lyrics in my hand, i was like 'ooh! i like this!!!!'.

I really relate to Memorial address, teddy bear, Moments and rainy day. I think they have the most beautiful lyrics!

95% of her songs have lyrical meaning. There's no point selecting.

I'm surprised nobody has said 'appears' thus far! Appears seems to be more of a song of observation opposed to experience, and the whole theme of not knowing how happy people are just by looking at them is a truth that runs deep for me.
'Moments' is another rather pretty one, if not just for the imagery. |

the lyric is really amazing..it mite sound simple but it implies a whole lot mroe than just what the eyes read.

wow that was a bump. I remember this assignment...woohoo, yes, of course I got full credit
(but so did like 80% of the class so... )I ended up doing STEP you by the way. omg I even handed out lyrics in japanese and english, and yet, at the end, this girl was like..."that wasn't in english was it..." and I just looked at her...and the whole class just laughed...that assignment was awesome, my friend was obsessed with STEP you for a while. To be honest, I wish I had done another song. STEP you had meaning, but really, I think I could have found more to write on in another song, rather that just talking about the 4 sides and the steps and so on. I would love for this thread to go on though...which song do you think has the most meaning? oh yeah, and Yukitora thank you sooo much for your description, I think I did use it...and....well...there was my assignment

Well. =/ A Song for XX, Moments, and Memorial address are the only ones that ever stood out to me as far as lyrics go.
The others are just... there. |

I really like Naturally, Teddy Bear and Memorial Address but like someone has said, many of her songs carry a lot of meaning. Just pick one you like.

I reckon it's actually about how her father walked out of her family when she was little.... You'll have to read her interviews, and how she mentions that she was especially hurt since her father lied about leaving her. If you don't believe me, consider how Teddy Bear and Memorial Address (about her father's death) are performed consecutively in Arena 2003/2004... And how the lyrics and music of Memorial address strongly reference Teddy Bear. Teddy Bear is an incredible song coz the three choruses are identical in wording yet very different in meaning. It's especially special due to the key changes F maj, Ab major and A maj... With the betrayal occurring AFTER the switch from Ab to A major (music theory suggests that a semitone transpose up usually gives an uplifting, happy effect).... which is also perfect to represent betrayal. Five other great songs she wrote... hahaha I probably could easily write 5 pages on each one. A Song is Born (the inspirational masterpiece she wrote after 9/11) Who (This one is still a mystery to me, of who the song actually refers to - possibly her grandmother who died during the recording of Poker Face) Memorial Address Appears Endless Sorrow Last edited by Enfluerage; 15th February 2007 at 10:14 AM. |

Ayu is always trying to tell something with her lyrics. She never randomly throws in words, like showed here not even in STEP you which has been critisized by many for not being a "deep" song. Even a lot of the non-meaningful words make sense in her songs, like some of the wow yeahs and aha-s. (like in vogue). Singing laughter like that I haven't really heard outside of old musicals and opera pieces. =P

I love the lyrics in A Song for XX. All of those questions she asks in there, I used to ask myself in the past..so this song I can relate to alot.
I can't decide on which lyrics I like the most, most of her lyrics are just simply wonderful :] |

I would have to go with A Song for xx, Memorial address, or Moments.
Although those have prety much already been voiced, it stands to reason that it's not without merit. SEASONS, also, i know has always been regarded (esp. by japanese fans) as one of her finest works. It never appealed to me that much though, so go figure. EDIT: OH! And i just remembered INSPIRE. That is one of those songs that you really don't think has any message if you don't understand the words, but reading the translation is quite an eye-opener. |

teddy bear would have totally been my choice, for exactly the same reasons Enfleurage said.
I had a similar project in english when I was in high school & I analyzed the combination of "Hana" and "vogue". When you look at both times when she compared herself to a flower, it's really quite interesting. One where she's waiting to bloom, and one where she finally has and it's not what she expected at all.
