According to RIAJ (Recording Industry Association of Japan) BLUE BIRD has now hit Platinum, meaning sales over 250,000 copies.

It's most likely that the RIAJ sales are based on the amount of copies that avex has shipped to the stores rather than the actual amount of sold copies, the single has most probably not yet reached 250,000 on the ORICON charts.

Platinum in Japan has, by what I know, always been at 250,000 copies.

Platinum in the US is 1,000,000 copies.

Unless the Platinum award is based on the actual amount of copies that avex shipped to the stores, if that is the case (which I think) then Daybreak and forgiveness should most likely also be Platinum.

I think they maybe count internet sales because before they said that (miss)understood passed 1 million. I also don't think it sbased on amounts shipped to stores because how can you tell if a CD went platinum or not unless people buy them

You can tell because avex sold 250,000 copies to the stores, even if the stores didn't manage to sell 250,000 copies to their customers. Internet sales of the CDs are counted by ORICON aswell.
