In your scanning software, look for any operation that lets you reduce Moire patterns (that's what it's called, the dotty/liney pattern. Comes from the method of printing the original picture source material, almost ALWAYS dots. Alot of scanners kinda emphasize that when trying to get more detail, but it doesn't go so well)... some scanner software has optimization for that specific task.
