Only really close female friends of mine knows that I'm a huge addict to J-music. Of course, the only artist I've been following on for since her debut is Ayu. I've ever used Ayu's music as one of my school projects but somehow... it didn't turn out well. xD

My guy friends just like her for her looks... though some tend to make fun of me listening to a half-deaf singer.

Well, in the university noone knows that I like asian music. I don't tell (and nobody asked me about this) because in the school my classmates thought that I am alien, they thought it's strange to like asian culture...
But now I don't care what other ppl think, it's stupid following the crowd.

In my case, they didn't know who is Ayumi Hamasaki is.

They didn't know the Jpop thing or stuffs connected to it.
They all know is the American pop music and thats it!

There is one time that when one of my classmates asked me who is my favorite music artist, and I very proudly said "my favorite artist is Ayumi Hamasaki". And then, my classmate started to ask "who is that?!?"
After that, I felt really isolated when it comes to music they're listening to.

Most of the time, they like Rap of the retards(This type of song existed ONLY in my country), Heavy Rock band music, and crappy Novelty songs that almost bleed my ears.

Well, despite of those things, Im very blessed that I discovered Ayu and what is the real meaning of good music. Not only in musicality but in lyrical content which it reflects the artists itself.

Same situation here! I am an American and I do like some American music, but very rarely. I will listen to Gwen Stefani and some Lady Gaga, etc but not very much. :p
No one understands who I'm talking about when I mention Ayu. It's a shame! :/ And when they see that it's in a foreign language, everyone looks at me like I'm a crazy, because by looking at me you'd assume I don't speak anything other than a European language! And to listen to something Asian is strange to them. They don't even want to try Asian music unless they are Asian themselves.
I don't look like the otaku type or anything. I just look average. No one would guess that I'm a maniac for Ayu!

oh yeah, I just realized that you live in Singapore... It's not weird to see Ayu's CM in TV..
But, here in Indonesia, there is nothing about Ayu in TV, even they SOMETIMES play her PVs when MIDNIGHT, or even in EARLY Morning,, how come people can realize,,

LOL my friends always thought she is barely 20 and they think she is hot.

I have a hardcore beautiful female posters collector friend and he doesn't listen to j-pop or ayu, but he actually BUY ayu's posters just because he loves her look lol.

My other friends like some of ayu's songs actually.

When I was at high school my classmates didn't say anything about ayu except for pretty, who's that chinese girl.

Most of my classmates don't even know who Ayu is

But 3 guys from my class called her a Chinese chick -_- Why? Well...
I was in middle of the IT class and I searched Ayu pics on google images, the 3 guys were near me and they saw me what i do on the computer and one said "Who the eff is this Chinese chick?? O_o" I said "Ayumi Hamasaki, the empress of the world ^_^" and then the guy (the 2 just watched) came closer to my computer and clicked on the pics where Ayu was more sexy (the UNITE! promo pic and the Startin'/Born To Be... DVD+CD cover) and then he suddenly said "She's not even hot o.o" others: "Chinese chicks are always ugly with those slanted eyes" and continued with those racist comments that I don't even want to post them. In all that time I just remained silent because it was useless to argue with them.

TT____________________TT

But...
I have a close classmate which I infected withh Ayu, Hikki and Kuu and we almost in every recess we listen to my iPod or watch PVs on it XD
She's awesome ^o^

omg that's annoying so badly :|

btw I'm not at high-school anymore, but my past classmates didn't pay attention to her, I was 'the shy girl who loves japanese comics and chinese music' facepalm.jpg.
Just a girl said 'oh that chinese's really pretty!' when I put an Ayu's wallpaper on a school pc and one day friends of mine start to playing Fly High during graphic class and most of my classmates had enjoyed it. Just because is pretty techno-ish, I guess.

When I was going to regular highschool, I had this thing for 'shocking people.' It was quite rude, but it helped when people looked at me funny when they went through my mp3 player.

I've always believed that no matter what colour you are or what language you speak, you can like any music at all. So, I don't really hide it from my classmates... that is to say, I wouldn't deny it or refuse to answer them. ^^

in my school, most people have never heard of her.

if they do they just reffer to her as "that speedy singer chick", from when my phone went off, ringtone: - evolution.

but saying that they did really like the song, they just wont ask me who it really is.

I understand how you feel! it really gets under my skin though. im not ashamed of loving j-pop, k-pop or c-pop or any other foreign music... but people feel that i should and it drives me crazy. similar to you, i let this kid in one of my high school classes listen to my mp3 player and when he came across my asian music stash (lol) he made me so angry! first of all, i hate it when people automatically look at you like you have 3 heads and say "thats weird" when they dont even know what it is and second i hate it when people say the names wrong ON PURPOSE, oh man. that kid came across Mika nakashima and he was like " whats a muka hukashim", I answered: "Mika nakashima" him:"muki hikumim" me:"no..". Also i used to, in high school, have ayu pictures all over my binder and another kid proceeded to say she was only pretty because of her make-up and photoshop (i already disliked this kid) and we got into an argument in class about ayu (and the teacher actually made him leave lol). another thing i hate about classmates and even my sister when it comes to asian music is: i hate being called unamerican because i listen to foreign music. listening to foreign music does not make me hate america, wtf? how dumb. so yeah, i understand where your coming from because i have no support whatsoever, my classmates in high school and now college dont like it my sister and her friends dont like it and even my best friend rolls her eyes and calles me a "freak" because of asian/foreign music *sigh*
