I think her management can mostly only influence the PV making process on the planning and concept level, I believe the director is solely responsible for the final product.

in general I think Avex is the best at making PV's, there's this air of quality about most Avex PVs even for the less popular artists compared to artists on sony & toshiba and etc. even artists like Ami Suzuki have really cool & pricey-looking PVs eventho their sales are in the thousands only ...

Exactly as I said.
ayu can select her directors, though they have to be in avex or has to be accepted by avex. avex gives her budget and fund for the PVs. Not for making bad ones with bad directors they don't know about obviously.

It's random, but I never disliked that PV. I actually liked it. To be honest, the only kind of PVs I usually don't like in ayu are those with crappy/horrid/fake computer effects like Startin' and Part of Me, but that's because the team responsible for doing such graphics is really bad. I'd rather they hadn't put those annoying pixelated and unreal graphics on them. Taking away those parts, I actually enjoy those.

Ayu HAS to have specifically chosen Kazuyoshi based on her previous photoshoots with him. How else? He is a complete rookie and then gets hired to do extremely high budget PVs overseas with one of Japans biggest stars. Unless he slept with an avex exec, there is no other explanation.

I think neither of the pvs you mentioned are as bad as GREEN. There's no overacting in those pv (well probly except HEAVEN and episode II when she cried.). I dun even think that's exaggerated walking in appears. To me appears is one of the best video ever made.

You really think the director did a nice job on GREEN?? Bad editing, bad directing. If he's a good director, he should have told ayu to sing and ACT naturally when she walked down the street. There must be other ways of acts that can show she's a DIVA in the beginning.

It's not we are not trying to find errors in the pv. But if the error is TOO obvious that distracting us, you can't blame many of us point out those unforgivable mistakes. And how can we watch the pv while keep being distracted??

I think your friend probly saying that the routine supposed to look like that. BUT ayu's hand on Midoring's shoulder, her body posture, and the foot steps were TOTALLY wrong.

Back then I liked the pv, but I understand why the members back then complaining about that pv. To me, ayu's pv magic stopped right after Memorial address. The first generation ayu fans usually looking into concepts, directing, scenes and transitions, AYU fashion and arts, etc. Not because we had high taste, but it's because ayu dragged us into that. First it was her lyrics inviting us joining her music. Then it's her pvs that attracting us. She always had brilliant creativity when it comes to cd covers, and pvs (well I guess the directors had more power back then lol).

I think you may remember that when Moments came out (the cover at least), people started complaining why she reused flowers on her head. To the old members or fans, ayu never recycled her fashion. I think MY STORY year was actually the year the members complained A LOT because ayu simply recycling old concepts (e.g., flowers, dancing in the pv, the boring CAROLS pv, etc.).

Of course I think many of the old members have been gone already. Trust me, if they see GREEN, they will probly love INSPIRE 100 times more.

And older members looked for how the concepts executed, while newer members are looking for creativity and beautiful scenes... (I think.. not sure, because sometimes I dun understand how good the recent pvs are...)

^No offense, but that was kind of funny. Ayu used flowers in more than one PV? And dancing? In two PVs?! That's outrageous!

i bet that in a few years everyone will look at GREEN as an awesome PV.

and i LOVE(d) INSPIRE from the first time i saw it.

i guess that AHS members just have a period of time when they complain about every PV that comes out.

No I'm not joking. I thought the flowers were better in Moments but still lots of people thought she just reused the concept in Duty era (around SURREAL time. That's the time when she stuck flower on her head). And dancing.... yeah because they've already seen ayu's dancing in Real me, and many of us (including myself) hoped that she would not dance again. It turned out that I like INSPIRE dance (it's more natural than Real me stiff dance). Still many people hated it.

And no, I will never like GREEN. It's ridiculously done. Even looking back, I never like Daybreak. I just appreciate the concept and how it was executed. It can't escape from being one of the most boring ayu pvs. Also, dissing GREEN that much doesn't make me loving Free & Easy (or Voyage) more. Those pvs have great concepts and probly executions, but bad scenes and arts. It's just the opposite of recent pvs: beautiful scenes with bad execution of concepts.

I always liked INSPIRE too. I thought the PV matched the music well.

I'm going to have to be in the middle on GREEN. The concept is great, but as already stated numerous times, the production is terrible. I immediately thought of Mirrorcle World in the beginning scene. We just had a PV with Ayu walking down the street. It also looked too much like a music video for a movie. I didn't like that.

I wish there was a better director hired so the concept of the PV would be better portrayed. I feel it fits the lyrics well.

I liked how in a little way people's real feelings were revealed in the club at night, and in the morning, they had to go back to hiding them again. Overall, I had expected it to be bad from the comments here, but I actually liked it.
The two quotes sum up pretty much I what I got out of the PV.

Eh, I disagree with you bluegie. I find myself watching almost only her post-Memorial Address PVs, especially m(u)/Secret.

But IMO all era's of PVs have better and worse ones. M was good, but imo Connected wasn't. JEWEL was good, but imo Born To Be... wasn't. etc.

I can't say, that PV is terrible, but obviously not the best.
The image is beautiful. You can press stop, put the image into frame and place it on the wall. But that is all that it has. Plot is interesting but(thanks to the director) doesn't touch feelings. I like the begining and the end, when Ayu stood at the street. But in the begining her walk along the street was really strange - she gesticulated too much.
So it's beautiful - but that's all it has. Maybe later I will like it, but now I'd better watch her old PVs.

PS for me Daybreak PV is the worst PV. Can't imagine how it was aired on TV.

I agree. I became a fan during her RAINBOW period and I LOVE every one of her PVs then till Memorial Address. I've also noticed the turning point in the quality of her work (PV/music/cover art) after the release of MA. haha, I still remember the complaining during the Moments era.

This video is a serious disappointment for me. Her hair in the HD quality looks like they used gel made of like liquid wood. Its so greasy and NOT healthy shiny :\

I hope days is better. The concept for it seems better anways.

My biggest dissappointment for this PV is the purple background with the Jedi circles matched with the 10 ear old wooden boards.

You'd think she would build a new stage....

LOL I love 80% of the pre-Memorial address pvs, love 95% of the ones in Memorial address (ANGEL'S SONG is a bit boring). Then... I dun love any in MY STORY (I "like" INSPIRE, a good pv). I think I like STEP you/is this LOVE?, fairyland (except the burning scene... badly done), HEAVEN (the concept), B&D/Pride (concept and her look). Then I don't like most of her pvs after B&D except JEWEL (gotta admit it's beautiful even tho the concept is minimal), (Don't) Leave me alone (simple but the concept is good and ayu looks more like her old self there). That's all. I don't like her recent pvs because it only show budgets, but poorly directed with no deep concepts/stories at all.

and I dun even consider Connected as a pv. There's no ayu in it anywayz.. .

I'm not sure if this is 100% correct, but I guess it's because the early ayu was the reason we got attracted by. So we kinda hope or expect to see the ayu we used to know (creativity of pv/cd cover arts; the better concepts and executions in pvs; more trendy, etc.). Many fans who love ayu after the early stage (post-Ma era?) do not like her old stuff.. I think I can understand that. Just like if I suddenly like an artist, it's because I like his/her recent hits. Rarely I would like the old stuff because either 1) his/her vocal skill was not that great back then; 2) the concepts between old and new songs are so different; or 3) the direction of music is changed, and I don't like the old music (let's say that artist is doing R&B-pop now, and he did pure R&B in the beginning).

I'm not saying I don't wanna see ayu doing some changes. In fact, I want her to try new music instead of using the same composer, same arranger (?). And I know that after Ma era she kinda revealed that she doesn't wanna go into fashion trend as deep as before, as she wanna be more "natural" (like... being herself?... and she's getting older so she doesn't wanna be that trendy.. things like that..).

You can see many of the old members are gone and also many new members join. I choose to stay because I do really love ayu (as she's one of my top 3 idols). And she does produce good music sometimes. Also, probly I'm waiting for another evolution from ayu (I'm not saying I want another song similar to evolution...). She has been in this diva-ish style for too long. I kinda wish she will turn herself into a brand new ayu (probly she will be diva-ish as well, but not like the curent "Oh I'm glamorous yet cute and I love acting in the pv" type). The old ayu loved refreshing herself once in awhile, so I'm waiting...

Really? ok... don't get my expectation high for Days... So if it's actually great I will have a happier excitement. If not, then I won't be disappointed...
