in regards to the "loudness" of the song affecting how people like it. It's absolutely true. Dynamics are probably the most important markings in music, aside from the actual notes.

I mean, would Free & Easy have had the same impact if it was there was no change in dynamics throughout the whole song?

About Ayu's music being bland...i think you all know how I stand...never give up on Ayu. I think people just feel music differently. For me, music is my passion. I feel it. It's the reason why I'm a musician. Ayu's music still makes me feel her emotions, one of the reasons why I love the MY STORY album.

Now you're making up utter nonsense - perhaps in an attempt to find some reason not to like people who don't like these songs - you want to find something 'wrong' with them just because they don't like a particular song. When you mature, you will come in contact with different people, and you will find that people have different ideas about what is 'fun'. One thing may be 'fun' to you, but to the next person it's not their idea of 'fun'. Perhaps you should stop and think that perhaps if someone isn't excited by something that they just find the song boring? Just because someone doesn't feel the same way you do about something does not mean there's something wrong with them and you shouldn't start making up reasons to dislike them because of that. You should try to get to know these people and find out what their reasons are instead. Read more of their posts about why they don't like the songs, and you will usually find out their reasons for not liking something.

No.. I didn't mean that there's something wrong with those who don't like a song [it's perfectly fine!..dang why did it come out wrong omg XD] but it seems a bit odd when one hails one work above all others..

Blah. I don't really like talking about 'liking/disliking songs' because I've never really had a problem with it myself. I read posts and I see reasons like.. she's washed up now, or there's a lack of real instruments.. and sure, they can believe that, they have the right to. It's just a bit weird that at a forum ABOUT Ayu, there are people who just dislike everything that wasn't from a certain era. Sure. Duty was amazing. But was it really so good that everything else created after it is just rubbish? I guess I don't like it when fans are like.. not even the tiniest bit of fans of the present version of an individual and lurk on the past..

Ayu's music still gives me the 'same feelings' as it always has, and I guess that's just how I see things. Sorry about generalizing about people who dislike the songs..

Some people are like that, yes, but not everyone who dislikes a recent song is like that - there are a few people in another thread that have listed recent songs they've liked. You seem to lump them all together just because they haven't liked the last couple of singles - try to work out which group is which, and not be so general and clump them all together When it comes to people who don't like anything, it's best to just focus on something other than arguing with them - why not just enjoy what you enjoy and forget about anyone who doesn't like it?

True, but the dynamics in that song is really harrowing. I can't leave it on using the house stereo for fear of the volume. Sometimes I just want to normalize the whole damn thing. Wonderful song otherwise.

Hey, that seem to come from me.

I don't think everything after "Duty" have been total "crap". I think every era has something good. "MY STORY" has "About you" for me. And "(m)u" has "Will" and "(m)u". Even though I hate an album, there's always at least a song that I think is great! Lately, her songs have been pop mostly... How am I supposed to be feeling? Happy? LOL. I'm more into rock, hehe. Looking forward to that.

Since you're referring to me, I'll explain further. I don't dislike everything from this era. I liked Ladies Night a lot, and I'm also fond of STEP you.
What some of us (including myself) are saying is that the general quality of songs (ie. album as a whole) has decreased over time.
Do I dislike everything after Duty? No, there are songs here and there that I enjoy. Do I like MY STORY and (miss)understood as wholes? No, I don't think there is much quality in that music.

And Hanabi_Chick, I love you.

Yupp, I think every songs of AYU has its special power. For example, "BLUE BIRD", "Fairyland" and "Beautiful Day" can make you happy. Listening to "Moments", "Walking proud" and "M" while you're sad or tired, they can make you feel better and powerful. That's what I think! How about you?

Me too.

And I only still get that way when I'm really depressed. But the song does calm me down =]]]

There's other songs that make me feel different things but I'm too tired to list... Ok maybe I'll list some...

Rainbow: This song when I heard the chorus, made me stop and think all the happy times I've had which are few but still. And i still feel that way everytime i hear the songs.

Seasons: Same with Dearest...

no more words: makes me think of the one i care most about

and there is many more....

That is why I often say that I love every single one of them an equal amount. Maybe I don't do at all times, but there's always moments when every song will have its special power.

Exactly, songs often has their very own occasion when you like it the best, be it due to feelings, your time/age in life or other reasons.

Well, for me an Ayu song is only considered a classic after I have listened to it for quite a while. It doesn't matter old or new.

I like her vocal in A Song for XX album. When her voice is still immature. Perhaps that's why I disliked her recent stuffs and prefer her classic works. (Don't get me wrong, this has exceptions to particular songs...esp. Ladies Night)

So is it just me, or is her music not as emotional anymore
HEAVEN is very recent. Her older music was much more emotional, in my opinion. Her music stopped getting emotional after I am ... . I mean, with songs like NEVER EVER, still alone, a song for xx, SEASONS, etc .. predating the RAINBOW album .. I don't think her music is emotional very much at all anymore.

(there are exceptions, like with memorial address)

Liar has to be her last truly emotional song in my book.
Everything else since that song has been pop nonsense.

I personally think Alterna is very emotional. Sure, it's not like the sad emotions that NEVER EVER or A song for XX radiates, but it's a different kind of emotion. I think her songs are still emotional, just a different kind of emotion.
