Anyone every been true this before?
You're so right!!! In my old school they all knew that I'm listening to Asian music. Well, they accept that, but I think that they were thinking that I'm a weird person.

Now in my new school everybody asked me for Ayu because I have two pictures of her in my pencil case. (The 'BLUE BIRD' Cover and the 'NEVER EVER' Cover.)
They said that she's beautiful. (What else?) But I was glad to hear that.
I also told them that I'm listening to Asian music, and I guess they appreciate that.

My elder brother hates me for listening to this kind of music. What a jerk!
My mother likes many of the Ayu songs especially 'vogue' and my best friend, (I love her!!!) she sometimes is listening with me to Ayu and I can talk with her about that and we dispute about Ayu or Gackt, for instance.

indeed it's easier to get away with listening to jpop here, in Singapore.

Though i can't forget the looks and rude remarks i get when i was in secondary schools. the kids there listen mostly to chinese and English, they always look at me funny when they see me listening to japanese songs. Why? they said it's crazy to listen to songs that you don't understand

True that, I feel bad for my Korean classmates because people keep calling them Chinese. And when they keep saying, "No, I'm KOREAN." And one of them say, "Same ******."

Ayu hasn't really come up in any conversations between my classmates and I, but people at my University seem to be pretty accepting of foreign music in general. In fact, I remember this one time last year when one of my floormates came up to me in the lounge and shoved a pair of headphones on my ears, telling me that I "need(ed) to listen to this awesome song!"

What was it? Ayumi's "evolution."

Also, searching my University's Facebook network for people with "Ayumi Hamasaki" listed in their interests yields 96 matches, which isn't THAT many compared with how many students go here, but it still means people here listen to her, and that's just the ones that declare it in their profiles!

I guess I'm not the only one to find it annoying that some people think that all Asian are the same. But at my school its not that when it comes to J-Pop and other Asian music, I'm not saying that the whole school likes it but there a quite a few people who do like it or well knows what it is and doesn't hate it. While the other people could really care less I guess. I suppose that because my school is really diverse because of most of the student are military dependent and they have moved around a lot many of which have been in Japan because their parents were station there. That and the local people are mainly Asian (its Hawaii what do you expect), and people highly addicted to Asian culture, weather its Anime, Manga, Dramas, or whatever people don't really have that big of a problem with it. Then there also the fact that my school offers Japanese as a language, which most of the people who takes that class is basically interested in Japanese manga or anime. However there are people who really are interested in the culture. But anyways other than that my school also host visitations for Japanese school a few times a year. Then again I suppose its mainly the people I talk to share my interest because there are people who don't really care for it which are normally the people who are umm well basically not Asian, not that all of them don't care for it but the people who don't falls into that category.
Sigh* I hope I didn't confuse anyone...

it's not like every chinese people like ayu.^^

it's not a weird thing to listen to j-pop because japanese culture is pretty popular here, thanks to anime and manga such as naruto, doraemon, sailor moon, etc.

and most of my friends recognized ayu as a famous japanese singer (even they never heard ayu's songs before)

We have a large Asian population at my school so most people are aware of Ayumi Hamasaki, and some were fans, but grew out of it as they got older. I remember quite a few liked Ayu and BoA in Year 7 (first year high school) but not anymore.

I've gotten some of my friends into her songs, while some are intolerant to this "chinese" music. XD

Speaking of which, it reminds me of the A BALLADS I found at the city library in the Chinese music section. XD

well I did a presentation about Ayu, and they were quite suprised that I like her and how she sings, the guys thought she is hot (showed the PVs Free & Easy + my name's WOMEN), they were also suprised how succesfull she is, I got some of them into Ayu (female mostly) and my teacher said she has a unique style of music, I was quite proud I got a good mark for the presentation, and also because I did the presentation, I got to know Ayu more, since before I didn't research a lot about her ^^

I even got 3 friends of mine, 1 from school in Mexico, another before I moved before I started living where I live now, and now my best friend, she enjoys Ayu's music and she already has a favorite song of her, she also likes the lyrics, which I printed out for her in german ^^

and also many classmates asked me, what my Ayu tatoo means, some thought it was crazy making one of her logos and some thought it looks great
