Digital releases

Hi guys,

I was asking myself how is your opinion towards digital releases? (By the way, I don't care if there is already such a poll, because opinions change over the time and mine has changed definitely.)

I was always a big fan of physical releases, because I love it to hold the CD in my hands and to be able to watch the artwork and so on. But in the last few days I noticed that alone my not very big Ayu collection of CDs is alone so big, that I don't know where to put all my other CDs. As it comes to my favourite artists (especially Ayu) I always prefer the physical release. But for example today I buyed for the first time a digital release via amazon (Rihanna - Only Girl (In The World)). I really like the song but would NEVER buy a physical CD of it. For me a digital release has some advantages:

1. Doesn't need any space in your room.
2. If you only want one song from an artist, it's much cheaper than the physical release (I buyed Only Girl for only 0,98€).
3. If your interest in a song isn't that big you can download it easy at home and you don't need to go to the next CD seller.
4. You are able to support an artist by buying the song (cheap and easy) and you are not only hearing it via youtube.
5. It saves the environment. Imagine how much materials can be saved.
6. Quality! You don't need to put up with a creepy youtube rip!

I think in the future I will buy more digital releases, but when it comes to Ayu, I NEED THE PHYSICAL ONE!

Edit: Just now I thought that someone could feel offended by the third option "I never buy anything. I only download illegally.", because the operative word in this is illegally. But this option isn't meant to have any judging in it!

I agree with you! I LOOOOVVVEE physical CD's. But if there's one song that I like from some English artist than perhaps I would buy it online. I've done it just a couple times though.

LOL I bought Doo-Wops & Hooligans by Bruno Mars just because of Just the Way You Are and Grenade. You never know what album tracks can be jewels. If I only bought Just the Way You Are and Grenade online (or illegally download, which I do not do with American releases) then I wouldn't have discovered Count on Me, Talking to the Moon or Marry You.

So I only buy physical releases. Even if it's just for one song. Besides, I will listen to the whole album and discover some jewels that nobody else would discover by just buying one song from iTunes.

I only buy physical (except from Born This Way). I think digital releases are worse than physical:the booklet, the package...

i don't mind to buy digital releases.but since my music folder is very messy,i sometimes deleted some songs without realizing it.LOL.so,i prefer physical cd(at least i still can rip it again if i accidentally deleted it)
i only buy if i couldn't find the physical cd (or the digital is cheaper alot )

I prefer physical releases, especially from asian artists.
But I do buy digital from artists I just listen pretty casual to.
So the last option for me.

I only buy physical releases, though I suppose this'll have to change as time goes by and everything becomes digitized.

It really depends. You have soo much flexibility with digital releases over physical ones.

idk buying CDs is all about collecting for me, cause they're just outdated. I mean, I can't even use booklets and stuff cause...everything I want to use them for, I need scans

When I got hikki's This Is The One, and it had the e-booklet, it was wonderful lol

So anyway, it just all depends on who the artist is, and how I feel about a particular release.

I voted for I don't like digital releases, I only buy physical releases! and then realised I meant It depends on the artist and/or release.

I don't download digital releases too often - literally once or twice a year. For the most part I prefer to have the physical CD so it actually feels like I've gotten something for my money. Plus, I love how they look on my shelf. I've only just started buying Ayu's CDs, but my KAT-TUN collection has over 40 CDs and they look so pretty lined up in order of release on the CD rack.

I only buy physical releases but I would buy a digital release if that was the only means to get the song.

Never buy unless I like something that badly.

If I see that the cd is cheap then I'll buy otherwise I'll buy the digital.

I only buy physical releases. I like having the physical copy...means more to me, and I can display it and show it off if I choose to.

I prefer buying physical CDs, but with some artists (ie iamamiwhoami, my favs) only release their songs digitally, so I buy them.

I do illegally download though

I only buy physical CDs, I'm really old-fashioned when it comes to this matter lol. Honestly, I don't think I've ever bought a digital release.. Somehow it feels less "real" than getting the physical copy and actually being able to hold the case in your hands.

I have to admit that nowadays I don't buy much CDs.. I only buy if I REALLY like the album. I don't have that much money to spend.

Well, it kinda depends on the artist too. For example, I don't illegally download releases by artists from my own country, because I can easily buy them. Besides, I feel like they ~need my money and support~ more than some American megastar who has already sold tons of releases.

For me, it depends on the artist.
I'll buy any Ayu CD, DVD or single. I have to own her physical releases.
Any other artist, maybe I'll buy their CD. But more times than not, they'll get downloaded digitally.
