Ayu fans from Singapore. Do you encounter this?
Heys all ayu fans from singapore... As you guys know, we have been mobbed by the k-wave here such that almost EVERY teenagger and young adult listens to stuff like snsd, super junior, shinee, fx etc etc etc...
Then sometimes when you tell your friends you like ayumi hamasaki.. They'll go like, "Huh?? Jpop is already not popular leh! ayumi is no longer popular leh. Why still listen to her? Now the IN thing is KPOP, SHINEE ftw!!! etc etccc." Then other friends would be agreeing kpop is so IN I find this super ridiculous. Do you encounter this?? Share your encounters herre!! |

They are indirectly making it sound like we're losers for not liking KPOP, I really don't see why must we be kpop fans just to be accepted by friends... I don't see why Liking ayu means we're outdated. ![]() ![]() Last edited by ayu_fantasy; 18th September 2011 at 12:22 PM. |

Haha it's true that KPop is in and JPop is considered out, and it's not just music but drama as well. Can't deny that.
For me, I solve the problem by hanging out with friends who love JPop as well. ![]()

Ah, not also in Singapore...
It's also happen in Indonesia, and much crazier here if it's about K-Pop. TBH, I envy with Singaporean fans, J-Pop still considered in Singapore music Industry, with A3D, and Warner still make local version of her album, also AKB48 Cafe, and even SCANDAL Concert. But, in here, many people keep saying about Girlsband, Boysband, only them. When I talk about J-Pop, some of my friend, just, "huh? who is xxx? I'm not interesting with Japanese." And I just, LOL... Biggest ayufans forum in Indonesia closed 4 months ago because the forum is getting very quiet since November, and Indosemar Music didn't produce ayu's album anymore, their latest release is just RnRC... No need to be ashamed just because you're fan of ayu, even if she's IN or OUT, but I believe sometimes J-Pop will rise again in your country!! ![]() |

I love ayumi and K-pop as well. Duh.
So do my sisters who are in Singapore. Well, you can't blame K-pop. K-pop is music too. It can spread anywhere. It has quality. And it reaches its peak right now. (So does J-pop in its peak era) I am quite pissed of people who thinks ayu or J-pop is taken away by K-pop. ![]()

Yea I totally understand. In fact, because of this issue, I have qualms about the definition of MUSIC. if people really like MUSIC, then there shouldnt be any boundaries due to language and stuff..
about the scandals, it's really..X-rated. I have NO IDEA what big news hit Singapore about Ayu so much so that even these NON J-POP fans know about it and treat it as the fact. Seriously, judging a person by these chinese tabloids...I feel like telling these friends of mine to actually THINK AGAIN and SEE for themselves. And besides, scandals aside, Music isnt something that should be tainted by these. My point of this is that, my friends make it seem that its WRONG to listen to Ayu because of these scandals. I find it totally ridiculous. and yes they say she's old too...SERIOUSLY!?..OMG and HTMSD, you brought up a really good point. I'm even shocked at how J-pop is finding its way admist all the K-pop craze, which I am a fan of myself. |

i love both jpop and kpop and more into kpop right now, but my most favorite artist is always gonna be ayu.
and i do believe that everything has its peak, just like how ayu was a TREND back then and got her peak, it always happens to anyone. the world evolves. everything got its up and down. back then, all i know that there was taiwansese wave in my country..the dramas, the music, the singers, etc. but then kpop wave slowly coming in and it conquers. who knows what wave is gonna come soon? |

One grp of my friends thinks that Jpop is old and worn out. but luckily the group of friends that i am closest to despises KPOP alot and have a hardcore j-rocker fan among them. heng ah cause i hate it how awkward it can be eventhough there is absolutely nothing wrong. |

I'm not from Singapore, but I can understand why you're angry. I mean, it's okay if you fall out of love with an artist, but when people stop listening to an artist, because he/she is "too old" or "not popular" anymore, is just crazy. I love Ayu because she works hard and always puts her heart and soul into her music and not because of her age or anything. @JPop vs. KPop: Jeez, I really have ENOUGH of these discussions. ![]() Everybody has a different taste when it comes to music and it's really so useless to quarrel over it! My personal opinion on this topic is that JPop is still much more popular than KPop (in Japan!). It's fact that KPop-artists only come to Japan for the money, which I find really sad. Most of them don't even take the time and effort to learn the language. There are exceptions - of course - like Tohoshinki. They at least had the courtesy to learn the language and they speak it really well too. But I would never start dissing KPop or KPop-fans because of my opinion.

I really can understand the OP feeling, because it's happened to me as well.
We can't blame anyone, they are getting popular because of the music, performance, trend, or maybe fashion. They sure working hard for this, so basically Korean artists are great, and they could bring something fresh and captivating to recent music market, so the news about Kpop has been spread quickly all over the world and many people love them instantly. What bothers me the most is the fans, seriously. I meet some people who think that Kpop music is something like saviour from heaven that will bring you to paradise, very godly and feels like the fans can't live without it. Seriously people? Most of Korean artists are talented, I can't deny that. But many people usually talking about their looks and appearance instead of their performance or talent. Sometimes the way how they behave towards Jpop is really... really ridiculous. This is the only thing that I don't understand at all, why they become so biased? I don't want to judge those people by saying they're changed because of Kpop, because I still know some people that respond to Jpop music and Kpop music fairly. What I'm saying here is "SOME of the fans" not "ALL of the fans". Anyway, I think you should be patient in this case, Jpop currently are just minority, probably. Don't be ashamed as ayu fans, or any Jpop fans. As for me, popularity doesn't mean everything, as long as their keep working hard building their career, someday they also could reach that level of popularity. Even if they couldn't reach that level, I think there's nothing wrong with that, enjoying music doesn't need that kind of 'superficial' thing, I guess. Ok, sorry for this long post.

yes, i do agree that kpop has it's quality. (In the past, i should stress on that) Now, it's almost like they are going thru those "IDOL making machine" to mass produce hot female/male groups... Look at the rate of groups debuting each month. Not everything are based on LOOKS only Last edited by ayu_fantasy; 18th September 2011 at 04:36 PM. |

^^^ What I don't understand is where the difference between JPop and KPop lies.
If I think about popular JPop-artists and popular KPop-artists, then I don't see much difference between them. And to say that KPop-artists are more talented than their Japanese counterparts is simply a lie. On both sides there are people who have a lot of talent and others who don't. And if you judge a musician only because of their looks and fashion style, then you're totally on the wrong track!

^ Nope, everybody likes different things (and that's good!).
If you don't like KPop, then don't go and force yourself to like it. I also don't like it. The only group from Korea I listen to is Tohoshinki and that's because these guys have real talent and are also very nice (the personalities of some KPop-stars are not very...erm...appealing to me! ![]()
