It could also mean this:

In case people are confused, it's not meeting at a place where he made a promise to Ayu. It's more like, "Let's meet at the place we decided on" or "Let's meet at the place we said we would."

I have a translation for the second and third that koboshi from multiply gave to me:

"I thought that among people we must always maintain a certain distance,
