But... about the Toxic thing... no. Ayu didn't copy Britney at all!! If she did then she would be some yucky, erotic hostess in a plane and stuff

Startin' all the way!
I don't think the PV it was a copy, it was more of a parody |

Definitely a parody. The first time I saw it I was like
???But then I realized the kill bill connection, and the toxic thing, and the really bad dialog for the Americans at the beginning must be poking fun at ridiculous American videos...

^most definitly.
And remember, parodies don't necessarily have to make you laugh...I mean, if someone didn't get it, it wouldn't make them laugh right? Besides, I actually like Toxic...not the vid...but the song. Yael Naim's cover of it took me completely by surprise and now I love it. Britney Spears though...I don't know.

Startin' was a bad, ridiculously over-the-top PV on purpose. It was to prove a point about over-commercialization I think.
I mean really, I think Ayu has much more sense than to wear those horrible butterfly sunglasses/chaps/Uma Thurman in Kill Bill-esque motorcycle suit together. And don't even get me started on that stupid drill. But for the record I think the Toxic video is fierce as HELL. I'm sorry, but parody or not, Startin' doesn't measure up to the real thing. RIP sane Britney.

Well, I think Toxic's budget [1 million USD] helped it a lot, which made it looks a lot better than Startin'..
I kinda like both of them, but Ayu's more because it was the first PV where Ayu was like "im so hot lol no really not really."

I made a typo! Fix it in your quote, OMG PLZ.
Anyway, Toxic probably had some huge company doing their visual effects.. after all they did win an award for it whereas Startin' probably had Takahide Ishii doing the visual effects in some Mac program. That motorcycle Ayu scene was SO FAKE.

no really? I don't think any of us noticed ![]() Startin' is just an interesting song all around...for me, it's so different than many of her others, the video is perfect for it.

Startin' for me. Of course, Toxic is good and a song I can actually listen to, but Startin' is better. Not just because it's Ayu. It's the lyrics that are personal to me.
And PV is million times better than Toxic's. Startin' is more like funny than "Oh me sexy...! look at meh~ <3" like Toxic is. :3

Toxic's MV is epic. Beats the crap out of Startin' in terms of general stuff. But Startin' was going for more of a parody feel, so I think that's the point.

i always thought it was a tongue-in-cheek thing about the media in general- music videos, movies, whatever.
(and i have to say, i wish there was more of the graveyard scene cause she looked ah-mazing ))))))))))))

I would say a satire more than a parody. A parody is just a remake for comedy, whereas a satire is a form of work that states an issue and attempts to solve it. The issue, sexualized music. The solution lets give those around us courage and tell them that they have the ability to do whatever they please, without letting those around them take advatage of the individuals dream. For example, Koda's image is something that Avex created to get her to sell records, she has no say in her career. So instead of someone focusing on her singing abilities they look at her physical features. In other words, Avex wants to appeal to those who would not usually listen to Koda by exploitating her womanly appeal. To sum this up, they want to create a larger fanbase. So instead of people thinking she is a humble woman, with a sweet voice, they believe that she is, well you know. Which is a sad situation because she has a pretty voice, or at least I think she does and so do many of her fans. Also, the same goes for Ayu because many people mention how Ayu has lost her creativity and the mv, even though it was not her idea, COULD be her reponse to those comments.
