OMG monochrome! [again]
So I was just listening to this song again today, and omfg, the end!! I get it now! Even though it's been discussed before, I never thought of it this way...
Well, When the guy cuts it off and says, "you're great", he throws the demo on the table and leaves... So he was listening to the demo of monochrome in front of ayu *o* That's how I see it now How do you guys interpret the end of this song? |

I thought it was "Yeah, right".
![]() And that guy said that when ayu said something along the lines of her being strong or something like that. Then he was like 'Yeah, Right", walked away and slammed the door? This has been told to me a several times. Though this never has been confirmed I think.

I hear him stopping the tape in the middle of the line "because I'm so strong," also throwing the tape on the table & walking away. I DO think you got that part right. I think the implication is that ayu is self-deluding, saying she's "strong." That's why the song stops suddenly there, cuz it's an interruption to keep her from lying to herself anymore.
But I hear "yeah right" thickly accented like the others do, probably because I read that meaning into it.

I hear "yeah, right" every time I listen to monochrome. :O It sounds like this person who says it sneers at Ayu being so strong or something to me. o.O

Me too. I always thought it cut off there because she's denying the fact that she's strong. |

honestly, that's what I've always read...so it's kinda stuck in my mind.
But when I hear the ending of that song...I barely even hear anything. It just sounds like some wtf noise after the abrupt cut off

I feel so confuced. I've heard this song for 10 years + and I still haven't heard anything after the song cuts of. I only hear how the song cuts of right after her "strong" statement and have also thought of it the same way as you guys. But I have never heard anything after that. Like someone saying something like "yeah, right". Am I deaf? Where do you guys hear this? O.o

I too believe that Ayu was self-deluding in the end of Monochrome. But what the man said (as I heard) is "you're right"=)). I favor "you're right" or "yeah right", cuz the behavior of the man (throw the tape, maybe, and slammed the door such violently) was impolite, as if annoyed at Ayu's lie. So "you're right" is more suitable I think

This is how I see it:
- monochrome is already (figuratively) a single that the man was either given because Ayu requested it or he brought it on his own terms. - Their relationship by this time has ended. - When listening to the song, he cuts it just after its ending with the last lyric 'because I'm so strong.' - He mutters 'yeah right' and throws the disc away. - Which means Ayu wasn't strong enough or she was, as others have mentioned, self-deluding. Either way, the relationship failed. |
