Okay.

Yes, this sucks, but it was expected. I'm not saying I don't feel sorry for her, because I truly do, but some a lot of you are overreacting. Now, if she said she wasn't going to continue singing and writing, that's different.

She could get a CI, but that would mean getting surgery, getting used to it... it may be more work than singing with profound deafness in one ear.

Hey, now this gives me an excuse to learn Japanese, study JSL, travel to Japan, and hope Ayumi is on the search for a JSL teacher. XD

UHPLus I don't remind ayu saying the reasons of her going deaf. Whaat if it's not sound related? There are various causes for deafness other than acoustic trauma. You can't base such opin8ions when you don't even know what the reason of her deafness was.

I don't think I was overreacting... for some reason I think I saw Ayu crying in my head unable to hear from either ear. D:

There are progressive/chronic diseases that lead to deafness and aren't related to sound. Such diseases MAY/WILL progress regardless of the person taking a rest from sound or not. By now, we don't know what the REAL reason of her deafness was. Usually, for acoustic trauma, you expect BOTH ears to be almost equally impuired since both ears will get exposed to sound all the same. She has mainly lost the hearing of ONE ear, and didn't give much insight on the other and didn't mention reasons for that. So we casn't really judge she's been dintentionally damaging her ears.

Understand.

The problem I see is that people think it's the end of the world and that she'll never be the "perfect" live performer ever again. I know a lot of people read that she will continue singing, and I'm honestly smiling at the fact that they're happy about that, but others seem to think she'll never be the "perfect" woman she's always been. I know we all know that she isn't perfect, as she's merely human, though.

*doesn't know exactly how to say what she wants to say because she doesn't want to sound like she's negative about the situation*

I'm happy and sad about the decision to keep on singing.

I think that I'm happy that she's doing it for the sake of us, but I'm sad because the more she does it, the higher the chance of her ears probably.. giving out..

You can't assume it's acoustic trauma though. There are many other reasons for deafness. Ayu didn't mention the cause.

If continuing to sing is ayu's decision despite of being deaf in her left ear and possibly right ear too in the future, we should respect and support her. From her past interviews, it seems like ayu is someone that doesn't want to do things she will regret later. Like she said before, doing concerts is the best way for her to reach her fans and she will continue to sing if there's ppl that will listen. I believe she is contining for herself...memories and no regret as music is her life and for her fans that supports her. Ayu is a very strong person. She doesn't want to give up on something that she loves doing. I don't think its about fame or money. She already set records and have plenty of money. If it was about fame, she would of tried to release a whole bunch of stuff for the past 2 years and songs that appeal to the japanese more to get better sales.

ok, this is getting ridiculous

truehappiness, i understand that you are deeply upset about this (as are most people). but to wish that on someone else...that's immature. i thought you were better than that.

uhplus, i used to respect you. if you haven't realized by now, this is a serious matter. like truehappiness say, try being deaf in one ear for a day (i'm not wishing it upon you. that's just cruel). i mean, lots of people's done it before, it's not that hard. find a really good earplug and just stick it in. then see how you feel

i respect ayu's decision to keep singing, but i really do think she should take a break for at least a half-year or something. too many things happened to her in 2007, i don't want the stress to affect her. after all, it's already the 3rd (4th?...) day of the new year and this happens to her.

If it's acoustic trauma, then she should take a break and get better (if that's possible) but it's her big anniversary year and everything, so she might have a hard time doing that now.

Have you considered the possibility that if she were to continue, she might have other reasons? I think Ayu is the most happy when she sees other people are enjoying her music and she feels like she's doing something worthwhile for her fans. And even if she continues with her career for the sake of maintaining popularity, I don't think that's dishonorable. After all, she makes a living out of this. Even though she probably doesn't care about sales as much as she used to I would think it valid for her to not want to lose her popularity all of a sudden. Granted, I personally think she should take a break because it's taking a toll on her health, but if she feels otherwise I will respect her decision.

You're not a J-pop singer with legions of fans who love your music though, so the circumstances = different.
