It's hate. I've been in convos with that person alone where all he did was rant about how much this or whatever kuu is, it's been a long time, but after being on the other end of that, it's just getting really old now.

When did I say that? Becuase I didn't....i meant ayu is far from being a vocal goddess because some ppl seem to be treating like ayu songs can't be well covered and **** (tbh only a few song from her would i consider that difficult to cover..the majority is easy). I was never pushing koda to a higher status, I'm just pulling ayu down, because there's nothing so ultra special on Dearest that makes it "oh so totally 'uncoverable' by kuu" as some make it seem.
It's so suspicious that with a lot of more questionable artists being mentioned to covering some ayu special songs, seeing people ONLY nitpicking and freaking out at koda kumi makes it seem more like people are using this thread to reassure their koda hate rather than being objective tbh.

I wouldn't really freak out if ayu were to cover a kuu song. I would actually be curious, and I personally think ayuu would be able to nail some of her songs well. Plus I wouldn't be quick to say ayu covering kuu songs would immediately sound bad. Who knows, maybe it would turn out better. We never know until we truly listen to them.

ELT has a song called monochrome (Time To Destination album), but it isn't the same song as ayu's. Actually the song title is written in japanese characters. As far as i can remember, it was a good song.

Oh no, this has more to do with someone having a monochrome cover way back when [song was the same as the Ayu one] but it wasn't actually a cover.

DeliriumZer0 deduced that it wasn't Kaori Mochida singing, but some random woman. I'm not sure who has the file now though... people who replied in that thread a while ago probably have it, but I wonder if they still post here [it was 2006]~

Ok, so imagine that for ayu's 10th anniversary avex releases an album with loads of artists covering some of ayu's songs and just pick the songs and artists you want to hear doing them

Kuu's voice in ballad is not consistent for me, IMO, because she can sound totally good in one ballad and not so good in another. I can't really compare Kuu and Ayu's voice, because they're in pretty different categories. (I mean, it's easier for me to compare, say, Kuu, Namie, and Hikki's voice, or compare Ai, Ayu, or Hitomi Shimatani's voice).

Anyhow, I don't think Kuu's covering would be bad, but what I loved about Dearest was the emotions in that song, kind of like the bitterness in SEASONS, so that's why I can see it would be weird. I don't think if Kuu's going to cover it it would sound bad, but rather really different.

Kanariya would be interesting. And Kuu can easily do Pride or even B&D.

Dude, what on Earth are you guys smoking? I like Kuu a lot actually, but I just can't stand her ballad songs (I really dislike all of her current music she's released now though). I'd rather prefer if she sang something fast of Ayu's than something slow. It does not mean "I'm making excuses" to say that Kuu wouldn't sound great just because I "hate her", nor does that mean I think Ayu's the perfect vocal goddess . So, jeeze stop jumping to irrational conclusions.

I repeat what I have said previously: with a bunch of other questionable artists being mentioned, it's bizarre to only see koda being dissected as the worst pick in this thread. If people feel like they have to criticize what people picked, at least comment on the other artists rather than singling out on kumi alone

Koda is not the only one with an "irritating" voice that could potentially "spoil" ayu's songs there. ayu herself can have an ear piercing voice in many of her songs anyway.

I guess i'm just exhausted of seeing all this ayu x kuu comparison crap.

Not going to point all, but these for example would most likely come a lot WORSE (ear piercing, off vocals, wrong pitched) than Dearest covered by kuu, yet ppl don't comment on them.

evolution -meets BoA- differently from Dearest which is a very simple song that can be covered by any person in this world, evolution is actually one of ayu's signature songs. BoA wouldn't be able to nail it, because that song has way too many ayu elements: la, la, la, ayu's fast singing, etc.

Boys & Girls -meets TOHOSHINKI- ewww, this song needs the female high pitched vocals for its cheeriness...seeing a bunch of men going "na na na na na na na..." would be horrible

SEASONS - otsuka Ai - bad, just baaaad..SEASONS with squeekiness does not match
Fly high - TRF
Boys & Girls | Amuro Namie - not something that suits namie...way too cheery for the kind of stuff she sings

(I'm not criticizing the choices, because the thread was made for fun, but I just felt like pointing those out because kuu covering Dearest is actually one of the most normal choices for an artist covering a song there)

Yet I see nobody freaking out and going "no, don't touch that please". I still think it's clear that some ppl are trying to reassure their hate (or extreme dislike for those who deny the hate word)for kuu here. It's always kuu that has to pop out in these discussions:

ayu and kuu wins on polls for fashion trenders: "oh no, but kuu totally doesn't deserve it"
kuu appears on a artists covering ayu thread: "oh no but kuu can't totally cover it"
kuu wins some award "oh no because kuu didn't deserve it. ayu totally did"

I wonder how many times will people have to have kuu as a sort of dark shadow following ayu

For real, change these broken vinyls ppl.

Well Koda is sort of a love/hate kind of person. Broken vinyl? I don't think so. Either people love her or hate her. Just as many people defended her, I hardly think she's being "unfairly attacked". I see more people jump to her defence, but then again, it's in the eye of the beholder. If you like her, you probably see more people hate her. If you hate her, you see more people like her.

I can listen to Ai, I can listen BoA, I can listen to Namie.. Koda makes my stomach turn.
